National registrations, on the other hand, give more flexibility and are way faster than the WIPO. That's why there is no one-size-fits-all solution as every situation is unique.
2. Check Your Trademark One of the most critical steps in the trademark registration process is to check if your mark is available in a particular country. This sometimes can cost as much as applying for the mark! On the other hand, if the mark is not available you can waste your money and time.
3. Learn the Cost and Budget the Price. How much an international trademark is? Well, it depends. The factors that affect the price are the number of countries to cover, the number of classes and even if your trademark is in colors or no. To make it simple, you should expect to spend 500-700$ per country.
4. Choose the countries. Getting a trademark in 100 countries can cost up to 40k$ and is this a wise investment? It depends! If you plan to start selling in all the countries within 3-5 years, then yes - go for it. But sometimes it makes more sense to start small - from 4-5 countries, adding more as your go. We recommend choosing the countries where you already sell or will start selling in the next few years.
5. Have a trademark strategy. Some companies have no trademark strategy and start panicking when they get into a legal dispute or find out that someone registered their trademark.
