Additionally, their basic services don't include support or legal representation. If your application faces initial refusal, they'll charge high fees to correct it. Also, their advertised $49 service is only for U.S. residents; foreigners must hire a USPTO-authorized attorney, which can cost upwards of $650.
2. Trusting instant online trademark searches. Typing in your trademark and proceeding might seem convenient, but these searches only reveal identical marks, not similar ones. This often creates the misleading impression that your desired trademark is free, potentially leading to wasted investments or even legal disputes. Always consult trademark professionals for a thorough search instead.
3. Not understanding a fee structure. Different attorneys will have different fee structure. Before committing, ask: "If the process is straightforward with no issues along the registration process, will I have to pay anything extra? If there are any issues, what will you charge for overcoming them?". This simple question will spare you considerable headaches and save you a substantial amount of money!
4. Submitting a poor specimen of use. Since 2015, proof of use requirements have grown increasingly complex. A mere screenshot of your webpage won't suffice anymore. However, a simple photo of your product taken with a mobile phone remains the best option.

The scam invoices is well-known (by trademark attorneys) fraud scheme when some company with an official-sounding name will send a paper invoice to your address listed on the Trademark Register asking to pay 2000$ for "International Trademark Registration".
